Guide to Choosing the Best Meal Replacement Shake for You

Meal replacement shakes have been around much longer than many people realize. Metrecal was one of the earliest incarnations in the 1960s and came in the form of a powder containing skim milk, soybean, and various vitamins and minerals. Highly criticized for its awful taste, Metrecal was still very popular amongst housewives and did not disappear from the market until it was replaced in popularity by SlimFast in the mid 1970s. After many years, countless celebrity endorsements and multiple different versions, meal replacement shakes still remain one of the most popular forms of dietary supplements even today.

When choosing the meal replacement shake that's right for you, consider the following:

- Whether you're looking to lose weight or just looking for a healthy meal replacement.

- Whether the shake has a good balance of protein, vitamins, and carbohydrates.

- Whether it can be combined with milk or juice.

I'm currently on Optifast and love it (I'm on a doctor supervised program). I've lost 68 pounds in 18 weeks! The bars and shakes are really good. I love the soups too - I just have to add some seasonings.
